Wasserman wins Under-18 title

USA’s James Wasserman was crowned the Boys’ Under-18 Singles champion in the Bank of Bermuda Foundation ITF Junior Circuit Tournament.Wasserman, from New York, defeated Canada’s Jack Van Slyke 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 at the WER Joell Tennis Stadium on Saturday.En route to the final, Wasserman pulled off an upset by beating top ranked Shaquille Taylor of the Bahamas 6-2, 7-6 in the semi-finals. Van Slyke defeated Bahamas’ Kevin Major in Friday’s other semi-final 2-6, 7-6, 6-4.In the Girls’ Under-18 Singles final, Venezuela’s Laura Fabrizi beat USA’S Elysse Graci 6-2, 0-6 7-6.Also on Friday, Bermuda’s Tyler Smith and her partner Mingxiu Du were victorious in the Girls’ Under-18 Doubles final, beating Graci and Trinidad’s Breana Stampfli 6-4, 6-1.In the Boy’s Under-14 Singles final Bermuda’s Dylan Powell pulled off a straight sets win over compatriot Luke Sterling 6-4, 6-1.
