Strong performances by Butterfield and Duffy

Olympic triathletes Tyler Butterfield and Flora Duffy produced strong showings at the weekend.Reigning Bermuda Day Half Marathon champion Butterfield placed second overall at Saturday’s Ironman 70.3 Muncie in Indiana while Duffy was fourth in the women’s field at yesterday’s Boulder Peak Triathlon in Colorado.Butterfield covered the 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run in a combined time of three hours, 49 minutes and 22 seconds to earn a place on the podium in a field of more than two hundred athletes.The Bermudian completed the swimming course at Praire Creek Resevoir in 25 minutes and 12 seconds to come out of the water in fifth.He then climbed further up the leader board to third after completing the bike leg in two hours, six minutes and 13 seconds.Butterfield posted the fastest time of 1:14.16 in the run but it wasn’t enough to reel in eventual winner Andrew Starykowicz (USA) who held off the Bermudian’s late charge.Duffy completed the 1.5 mile swim, 42 mike bike and 10k run at her event in Colorado in a combined time of two hours, five minutes and 21 seconds.
