Bermuda’s girls tennis team have reached the semi -finals at the ongoing Under-12 Masters Tournament in Monterray, Mexico with a game to spare.

The Islanders booked their place in the last four after recording convincing 3-0 wins against Jamaica and Nicaragua.

And they will play hosts Mexico today to determine which country claims group honours.

“Our girls have improved so much since Jamaica (last month’s ITF/GSDF English Caribbean Wilson Under-12 COTECC Team Championships) and their results are showing that,” said coach Steve Bean. “The girls won 3-0 against Jamaica who beat us in September so this shows that we have improved over the last month.”

Representing Bermuda’s unbeaten girls team in Mexico are Kaylah Ming and Imani Phillips.

The Island’s boys team, consisting of Ricky Mallory III and Ben Lines, suffered their first loss (0-3) yesterday against a powerful El Salvador and must win their Davis Cup format series with Mexico today to stand any chance of reaching the semi-finals.

Bermuda’s boys team started the tournament off with a bang after prevailing against Bahamas (2-1) who they lost to in Jamaica the previous month.

Following their loss to El Salvador the Island’s boys team did some extra training to “sort out any areas of concern”.

Bermuda earned the right to compete in Mexico after placing third at last month’s ITF/GSDF English Caribbean Wilson Under-12 COTECC Team Championships in Jamaica.
