Minister of Social Development and Sports Nandi Outerbridge has congratulated Bermuda’s Junior Davis Cup team which placed seventh out of 18 countries in the North/Central America and Caribbean tournament in El Salvador at the weekend.

It is the highest finish for Bermuda since they began competing in the Junior Davis Cup event. The young competitors were Tariq Simons, Trey Mallory and Scott Redmond.

Ms Outerbridge said: “The boys did such a good job. I heard they performed extremely well against some tough competition. Bermuda should be very proud of our rising tennis stars who, I understand, are an exceptionally strong batch of players.

“I also want to thank coach Ricky Mallory for all of his work in encouraging Tariq, Trey and Scott to be their best and give it their all, and for the many hours he puts into their training to ensure they are equipped to compete with players from across the Caribbean and beyond.

“I am inviting members of the public to join me and MP Jeff Sousa at the airport tonight to welcome back the team.”
