Franklin and Browne lose to Peruvians

Battling performances: Micah Franklin reached the second round of the singles competition in Cayman Islands

Micah Franklin and Noah Browne exited in the second round of the men’s doubles at the Pan American Squash Championships in Cayman Islands yesterday.

Franklin and Browne lost to Alonso Escudero and Andres Duany, of Peru, 11-6, 11-4, having beaten Joe Chapman and Neville Sorrentino, of British Virgin Islands, 11-5, 11-5 in the first round.

In the mixed doubles Nick Kyme and Emma Keane lost to Cameron Stafford and Marlene West, of Cayman Islands, 11-5, 11-2 in their opening match.

Alex Furtado and Laura Robinson were defeated by Eilidh Bridgeman and Jade Pitcairn, of Cayman, 10-11, 11-6, 11-8 in the first round of the women’s doubles.

Franklin and Browne were both defeated in their second-round singles matches on Monday. Franklin lost to Diego Gobbi, of Brazil, 15-13, 4-11, 12-10, 11-2, while Browne suffered a 11-8, 4-11, 11-8, 10-12, 11-9 defeat to Cayman’s Cameron Stafford.

Franklin won his oepning game last Sunday 11-1 beforeDion Anselme, of the British Virgin Islands, retired injured. Browne beat Nicolas Cabellero, of Paraguay, 12-10, 11-3, 11-5.

Elijah Simmons, of Bermuda, lost his opener 11-1, 11-3, 11-3 to Chapman, of BVI. All three Bermudian women’s players lost their opening matches on Sunday.

Alex Furtado lost 11-7, 11-3, 11-3 to Ashley Khalil, of Guyana, Laura Robinson was defeated 11-9, 11-5, 11-7 by María Fernanda Pinot, of Guatemala, and Emma Keane was beaten 11-5, 11-8, 11-8 by Brazil’s Juliana Pereira.
