National youth team suffer semi-final defeat
Bermuda's under-14 girls team suffered another loss in the WJT World Team Junior Tennis Competition in Dominican Republic yesterday, going down 3-0 to fourth seeds Trinidad and Tobago in the consolation semi-final.
Jae Gibbons lost the first singles match to Charlotte Ready 6-1, 6-0 before Trinidad sealed the win when Ella Carrington defeated Asia-leigh Hollis 6-0, 6-0.
Gibbons and Kumani Jackson then lost to Carrington and Zara Ghuran 6-0, 6-0 in the doubles.
Trinidad and Tobago will meet Curaçao in today's final, after the latter beat Surinam 3-0 in the other semi-final.
Bermuda and Surinam will meet today in the match to decide third place.
Guatemala, the No 1 seeds who beat Bermuda on their way to winning Group A, will go head-to-head with third seeds Dominican Republic in the main final today.
Puerto Rico will play Honduras for third place after their losses in the semi-finals.
