Ben Bramlett and Jeffrey Olson serve up thriller
Day two of Bermuda’s Gnosis National Squash Championships featured a host of Plate and age-group action.
Those players unfortunate enough to be knocked out in the first round on Monday got a second crack of the whip on Tuesday night and there was an epic battle between Ben Bramlett and Jeffrey Olson in the Men’s A Plate division, with Bramlett defeating his opponent 19-17 in the final set.
Piers Carr, Jordasche Rawson and Korin Knights were also successful in that section after bouncing back from defeat the previous night.
Chris Dawson, Anthony Fellowes and Nick Leach progressed in the men’s Over-40 division, with the latter needing four sets to overcome the stubborn challenge of Malcolm Woodley.
Leach also competed in the Over-50 age group and secured his second win of the night by beating Kevin Gillespie in straight sets. Peter Cooper and Jeffrey Ingelman also progressed.
There were some tight matches in the Men’s B Plate draw with Aleem Qureshi needing five sets to fight off William Sura and Jason Savoury knocking out Shane McDonnell in four hard-fought sets.
David Soutter and Neil Lupsic live to fight another day in the C Plate after beating Matty Copeland and Rocco Adderley respectively.
In the Women’s Veterans competition, Shannon Mann beat Samantha Spencer in four sets.
