Top times from local swimmers

Bermuda swimmers have delivered some impressive recent performances overseas.

National swim coach Ben Smith said: “Julian Fletcher, representing Southern Methodist University at the C-Championships, finished in fourth place in the 100 breaststroke in a superb time of 54.98 seconds in the 100 yards breaststroke.

“This time is a NCAA B standard and grants Julian a possible berth at the NCAA Championships.”

He continued: “Rebecca Sharpe, representing the University of Toronto, made the B finals at the CIS Championships in Calgary, advancing three places from her 19th seed position, in the 100 backstroke. She finished with a new personal best of 1:04.09.”

Fletcher and Sharpe will be travelling in Indianapolis this weekend where they will meet up with Nick Thomson and Roy-Allen Burch.

“hey will all be making an attempt to make the qualifying times for FINA World Championships. This meet is part of the Grand Prix series and has been confirmed as a Worlds qualifier.

Smith added: “With the great form that all of these swimmers have had overseas we look forward to see what they will be able to do in a long course competition against a world class field.”
