Swimmer Burch fifth in CAC final

Pool star: Burch set a national record in Veracruz, Mexico

Roy-Allan Burch, the Bermuda swimmer, came fifth in the final of the 50 metres freestyle at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Mexico.

Burch clocked 23.10sec, which was 0.80 behind winner George Bovell, of Trinidad and Tobago.

On Monday, the Bermudian shattered his own national record in the 50 metres butterfly. Burch swam 24.77 in his qualifying heat, shaving nearly a second off his previous best of 25.60 at the 2012 Caribbean Islands Swimming Championships.
