Records tumble at Age Group Championships

Several records fell during the Mailboxes Unlimited Winter Age Group Championships at the BASA pool at Saltus Grammar School at the weekend.

Taylor White, of Sharks Swim Club, broke the 800 freestyle record in a time of 9min 26.37sec. Also on Friday night, Brian Desmond, of Sharks, broke the 1,500 freestyle record in 17:02. Sam Williamson, of Sharks, shattered the 200 breaststroke record in 2:34.86, before breaking the 100 breaststroke record in 1:10.83 — the previous record of 1:11.23 had stood from November 1994.

Logan Watson-Brown claimed another record for Sharks, taking the 400 freestyle record, while Keagan Woolley, also of Sharks, broke his own 50 breaststroke record while swimming the 100 in 32.18 yesterday.

Jack Harvey, Emma Kittleson, Finn Moseley and Alyson Scherer, of Harbour Swim Club, set a new record in the 4x200 mixed gender relay.

The overall winners of the championships were Imojen Judd, of Sharks, in the 10 and under girls’ division, while Lucas Castree, of Harbour, claimed the 10 and under boys’ title. Lindsay Scherer, of Harbour, secured the 11-12 girls’ division, with Brandon Adkins, also of Harbour, taking the 11-12 boys’ category. Watson-Brown, of Sharks, was victorious in the 13-14 girls’ category, Desmond, of Sharks, won the 13 and 14 boys’ division, while Sharks’ Skyler Powell took the 15 and over girls’ category.

Jesse Washington, of Sharks, won the 15 and over boys’ title.
