Jadon Spriggs defeated Tobiah Goodchild to win the boys 18 and under Highland Spring Junior Open Tennis Tournament at Pomander Gate Tennis & Pickleball Club over the weekend.

Spriggs, who was runner-up to champion Zachary McGuire last year, triumphed 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 over Goodchild.

McGuire teamed up with Goodchild to win the boys 18 and under doubles, in which Hasan Khan and Chase McCrimmon finished runners-up.

Khan enjoyed success in the boys 16 and under. He won all his matches in a round-robin with McCrimmon, Trystan Thompson and Adam Grasso.

Riley Maybury was victorious in the boys 14 and under. He also combined forces with Thompson to pick up the doubles for the same age group.

Lee Terceira won the singles in the highest age group for girls, the 14 and under, in which her Bermuda team-mate Arianna Parra was runner-up.

Blair Rance, the tournament director, indicated that the interest for the competition was good but was disappointed with the turnout in some of the older age groups for girls.

“We had a total of 39 players for the tournament,” he said.

“Our highest age group for girls was 14 and under. We didn't have any entries for the 16 and 18 age groups, so we had to cancel those draws.”
