Bermuda junior tennis player Lee Terceira put on a superb showing at the United States Tennis Association Level 5 Sacta Harvest tournament in Atlanta, Georgia, where she won the girls under-12 singles and doubles titles.

Having qualified the previous weekend for the Orange Bowl Masters Qualifier, Terceira opted to compete in Atlanta, entering both the singles competition, which featured 24 players in the under-12 category and the doubles event.

It was the fourth tournament victory for the Warwick Academy student in America this year.

She clinched the under-12 girls division at the USTA Level 5 Miami Open in February, won the girls 12 and under singles at the Emilio Sanchez Academy USTA Level 6 Tournament in Naples, Florida, in July, before she took the top prize in the USTA Level 6 Boca Downtown Midsummer Day’s Dream in Florida during the same month.

“It’s an amazing experience for me to win this tournament,” Terceira told The Royal Gazette.

“ I learnt and benefited a lot from it and now I can see what to improve. I did training in Florida before I went to Atlanta and I think that really helped.”

After defeating Adalyn Johnson 6-3, 6-3 in the semi-finals, the Bermudian triumphed 6-1, 6-1 over American Mila Azucki in the singles final.

Terceira teamed up with Teesta Mohan to claim the doubles title 9-8 in a thrilling final decided by a tie-break.

“I’m grateful for all the coaching I’m getting from Ricky Mallory in Bermuda and Jhonny Berrido at The Tennis Ranch in Florida,” the 12-year-old said.

“This was my last L5 tournament in the under-12 as I’m turning 13 in January and moving up to the under-14.”

Watching his daughter achieve success overseas brought great joy for Teddy Terceira, the young star's father.

“Lee really stood out with her athleticism on court, fierce competitive spirit and nerves of steel,” he said.
