Actress falls in love with Bermuda

Yara Shahidi, star of the hit US shows Black-ish and Grown-ish, sparked social media attention with a visit to Bermuda.

Ms Shahidi, who starred in the film The Sun Is Also a Star, visited with her family last month with the support of the Bermuda Tourism Authority.

In one post on Instagram seen by more than 550,000 users, the actress and activist said: “I’m still in love BERMUDA.

“What an incredible way to kick off the summertime. Pink sand beaches and the island of Bermuda have my heart.”

Kevin Dallas, the CEO of the BTA, said: “We were thrilled to show off Bermuda’s best to Yara and her family.

“We loved connecting the Shahidis with Bermudian characters, storytellers and experiences — and the whole world can now travel along with her via Yara’s beautiful Bermuda Instagram posts.”

A BTA spokeswoman said the family toured St George’s with guide Kristin White, enjoyed the local flavours on an exclusive foraging tour with Doreen Williams James, took to the waves on jet skis and discovered secluded beach spots across the island.

They were also able to enjoy food from Marcus’, Sweet Saak Bakery, Bolero Bistro and Wahoo’s.

Ms Shahidi and her family also met David Burt, the Premier, and his wife.

The visit was part of the BTA’s efforts to double the number of African-American leisure air visitors by 2025 and to highlight the island’s appeal to active families.
