Guests have been invited to attend a launch event next week for the beach club at the Fairmont Southampton.

A “personal invitation” was sent by e-mail for the grand opening party, scheduled for Tuesday.

It said: “We look forward to welcoming you as we mark the first chapter in Fairmont Southampton’s return and a significant moment for Bermuda.”

Potential attendees were advised that they were receiving a “VIP invitation”, that a reply to confirm attendance was required and that there are to be “no additional guests”.

The reimagined Palmetto Beach Club will open as the iconic resort prepares to once again become fully operational after the closure of the 593-room hotel in 2020 for renovations.

Chris Maybury, a representative of Westend Properties Ltd, the site’s owner, said earlier that the beach club was expected to open this month.

Speaking at the Build Summit in May, he added: “The hotel will be open a little later in the year, but it will definitely be open.”

Extensive renovations at the resort have been estimated to cost about $550 million.

Mr Maybury said in May that the beach club was the most expensive built in Bermuda and the Caribbean.

“I can’t tell you how much it cost, but it was a significant amount of money,” he told The Royal Gazette. “The beach club extends into the area where there were eight tennis courts.”

The new facility will include two restaurants, a dedicated facilities pavilion, bars and a cabana.

A Fairmont Southampton spokesman said in February it was anticipated that the resort would reopen in August.

The Gazette this week asked several questions about the beach club and when the hotel will reopen but there was no response by the time of publication.
