Research suggests that more visitors searched the internet for holidays to Bermuda than actually visited the island.

The analysis, conducted by AllClear Travel Insurance, showed that 269,250 people searched online for holidays in one year, compared with 199,193 who visited the island in 2025.

This indicates 135 searches for holidays to Bermuda for every 100 people who actually visit.

AllClear reached this number for Bermuda and 161 other spots by analysing global Google search volume, narrowed down by keywords.

A statement from AllClear said: “These were compared with the most recent official full-year tourist arrival figures for each destination (2023 to 2025), sourced from United Nations Tourism and national tourism and statistics authorities, to calculate the number of searches per 100 visitors for 162 destinations.”

Bermuda was revealed to have the third-most of these kinds of searches per number of visitors — behind the Polynesian nations Tuvalu and Kiribati, which saw 327 and 153 searches for every 100 tourists respectively.

Directly behind Bermuda in the research was Montserrat, another British Overseas Territory, and the Solomon Islands, which recorded 129 and 110 holiday searches respectively for every 100 visitors.

These were the only five destinations surveyed where holiday searches outnumbered visitors in 2025.

Letitia Smith, AllClear head of communications, said: “We all have that one destination we’ve wanted to go to for years, and for lots of people it stays on the wish list.

“Our research shows just how much online interest some places attract compared with how many people actually make the trip, especially the far-flung, remote islands that can be tricky to commit to.

“Cost and distance are the most obvious barriers, but sometimes it’s life that gets in the way, particularly for travellers who might be living with pre-existing medical conditions.”
