Darrell jumps into NCAA Indoor Champs

Bermuda’s Latroya Darrell placed second in the triple jump at a university track and field meet in the United States at the weekend to qualify for the NCAA Division 1 Indoor Championships.Darrell’s University of Georgia team-mate Aaron Evans will also take part in the 800m at next weekend’s Championships.Bermuda Track and Field Association (BTFA) are to send a team of athletes to the Gibson Relays in Jamaica later this week.Representing the Island will be Shaquille Dill, Juma Mouchette, Darico Clarke and Chayce Smith.The foursome, who will be accompanied by manager Wayne Bean, will compete in the mile event and the 4X800 race.More than 4000 athletes and 298 teams will compete at the Relays.Two more local athletes qualified for next month’s Carifta Games at the weekend.Both Quinnae Outerbridge and Taylor Ashley-Bean met the qualifying mark in the under-17 girls 1500 metres ‘A’ standard and the girls 3000m ‘B’ standard, respectively.Chas Smith, who had already qualified for the ‘A’ standard long jump, also qualified for the boys ‘A’ standard high jump.Shaquille Dill, a qualifier for the 800m ‘A’ standard, also qualified for the boys 1500m ‘A’ standard.
