Dill to run three events in Carifta

Up and coming Bermuda runner Shaquille Dill has met the Carifta Games qualifying standard for the 400 metres.Dill, who won a gold medal at last year’s CAC Junior Championships, ran a blistering 400 metres in 48.68 seconds at the National Sports Centre earlier this week to qualify for the under-20 boys category. The 17-year-old has now qualified in the 400m, 800m and 1500m.A total of 27 athletes have now qualified for the Games which will held in Jamaica from April 23-25.Bermuda will host next year’s Carifta Games. The Island last staged the event in 2004 which saw current world record holder Usain Bolt, of Jamaica, become the first junior athlete to break 20 seconds in the 200m in a time of 19.93. Last year’s Games were held in the Cayman Islands where Bermuda’s team finished fifth out of 25 nations.
