Antonio Bailey and Sakari Famous both qualified for this year’s Carifta Games at the weekend.

Competing at the National Sports Centre (NSC) hosted by Flyers Track Club, Bailey achieved the Games’ ‘B’ standard in the Under 17 boys 400 meters after covering the distance in 51.46.

The son of former Somerset Trojans footballer Anthony Bailey was a member of the Island’s Carifta team that competed in last year’s junior regional event hosted by Bermuda.

Famous achieved the Games’ ‘B’ standard in the Under-17 girls high jump with a leap of 1:59 meters respectively.

A total of four local athletes have qualified for the upcoming Games to date.

Tiara DeRosa was the first to qualify on January 5 after reaching the Games’ ‘A’ standard in the Under 17 girls shot put with a hurl of 10.33 meters.

Long jumper Kerri Furbert qualified two weeks later while competing at the Missouri Invitational at the Hearnes Centre, Columbia. The University of Missouri student achieved the Games’ ‘A’ standard after posting a personal best leap of 5.76 metres to finish third in the indoor meet.

Furbert represented Bermuda at the last Carifta Games, placing fifth in the Under-20 girls’ long jump final.

This year’s Games will be held at the Thomas Robinson Stadium in Nassau, Bahamas from March 28 to April 1.
