BHS and Saltus win Middle School Cross Country titles

Bermuda High School and Saltus Grammar were the winners at the 2023 Bermuda School Sports Federation Middle School Cross Country Championships at the Arboretum on Tuesday.

In the individual competition. Gabby Cechini from Somersfield Academy won the under-13 girls division in a time of 14min and 4sec, finishing half a minute ahead of Isla Paddison from Saltus Grammar School. Bermuda High School’s Georgiana Felix finished third in 15:01.

BHS won the team event with their top five runners finishing in the top eleven places. They finished on 38 points with Warwick Academy scoring 63 and Somersfield Academy rounding out the podium in third with 84 points

Saltus Grammar School swept the medals in the under-13 boys division with Ta’han Eve claiming gold in a time of 12:25, Carter Thomas finishing second in 12:32 and Harrison Estwanik coming home third in a time of 12:41.

Those performances ensured Saltus were clear winners in the team division with a score of 20 points after their top five runners all finished in the top nine. Dellwood Middle School and Warwick Academy both scored 83 points but Dellwood picked up the silver as their sixth-placed runner was better than Warwick Academy’s

Bermuda High School were dominant in the over-13 girls’ division with Somers Estwanik winning in a time of 14:11. Schoolmate Cristina Abend finished in second ahead of Aria Mosquera, from Saltus. BHS finished 50 points ahead of their nearest rival in the team standings with 28 points, followed by Saltus in second and Warwick Academy in third place with 96

Front Street mile winner Cameron Adkins won the over-13 boys division. The Warwick Academy student, who recently achieved qualification for this year’s Carifta Games, won the race in 11:34.

The Saltus pair of Declan Reardon and Conor Hupman rounded out the podium, with their school winning the team event on 23 points. Warwick Academy finished with 80 points ahead of Dellwood Middle School, who finished third with 90 points.
