The Berkeley Institute defended their senior school track and field title in convincing fashion at the Flora Duffy Stadium on Thursday night.

Berkeley came out on top after collecting 665 points, ahead of Warwick Academy with 397.5 points and Saltus Grammar School, who completed the top three places with 334 points.

Among those impressing for Berkeley was Lashee Jones, who won gold in both the 100 metres and 200, while she finished fourth in the long jump. Her schoolmate Kalila Daley finished second to Jones in the 100 and 200, while also adding silver in the 400.

Kyah Richardson excelled in three events in the under-16 division, winning the long jump, while also picking up silver in the 100 and bronze in the 200.

There were some dominant displays from recent Carifta Games qualifiers in the under-16 girls division. Jaeda Grant, of Saltus warmed up for next week’s trip to Grenada by capturing three golds in the 800, 1,500 and 3,000 metres.

Tatiana Sousa from Warwick Academy won the javelin event, settled for second spot in the discus and fourth in the shot put.

Another outstanding performance came from Warwick’s Jake Smith, who ran away with the over-16 boys title after winning the 800, 1,500 and 3,000.

Schoolmate and fellow Carifta qualifier Norre Robinson doubled up wins in the 100 and 200. Matthew Banner also collected points for Warwick with three second-placed finishes in the three throwing disciplines.

Other top performers in the under-16 boys division were Zaki Gibbons-DeShields from CedarBridge Academy, Luke Horan, of Warwick, Somersfield Academy’s Jackson Langley and Malik Paynter, of Saltus.

Gibbons-DeShields jumped his way to gold in the high jump and also won the javelin. Paynter came out first in the blue riband distances of 100 and 200 sprints.

Langley showed his competitors a clean pair of heels in the 1,500 and 3,000 races. Horan fell second to Gibbons-DeShields in the javelin and won the discus event. Chinae Dickenson-DeSilva from Berkeley earned sprinting bragging rights by winning the 100, 200 and 400 in the girls over 16.

Warwick’s Adriana Argent finished second to Dickenson-DeSilva in the 400, but then went on the win the 800 and 1,500. Daria Desmond, also from Warwick triumphed in the 3,000 and finished second to Argent in the 1,500 and 800 metres.

CedarBridge Academy’s Dominique Brown won the javelin and shot put while finishing fourth in the discus. Berkeley’s I’Aura Golding was a double winner in the long jump and triple jump.
