Pria Wilson thrilled to bag three gold medals in Florida

Sprinter Pria Wilson has expressed her joy at clinching three gold medals and setting personal bests in the 100 and 200 metres at the IMG Academy Invitational in Florida.

Wilson ran 12.00sec to win the girls 100, an improvement from her time of 12.13sec in the preliminaries. In the 200, the 16-year-old clocked 24.98 to better her previous best of 25.02 on her way to becoming the champion.

The Bermudian completed her gold-medal sweep by combining with her IMG Academy team-mates, Reegan Clutter, Aniyah Walker and Marchele Robbins to win the 4x100 relay in 47.32.

“I’m incredibly proud of how far I’ve come,” Wilson told The Royal Gazette.

“The journey hasn’t been easy and there were moments I felt like giving up, but I kept pushing, both mentally and physically.

“Seeing that hard work pay off at this meet means everything to me. This is just the beginning and I’m excited for what’s ahead, all glory to God.”

Wilson, who represented Bermuda at the 2023 and 2024 Carifta Games, is this weekend heading to Charlotte, North Carolina, for the AK Need 4 Speed, an middle school elite invitational.

Last month, Wilson, competed at the New Balance Nationals Indoor Championships in Boston.

Meanwhile, Amaris Munya, another America-based Bermudian female athlete, won the women’s 800 at the Lake Sumter Championships.

Munya, of Montverde Academy, finished the race in 2:23.43. She is preparing for the Florida High School Athletic Association District Championships, taking place at her school on Friday.
