Bermuda Pacers made their presence felt on debut at the International Youth Championships in Maryland at the weekend.

The local track club came away from the three-day track meet at the Prince George’s Sport and Learning Centre with an impressive ten medals, including three gold.

Riana Robinson won gold in the 15-16 girls 1,500 metres and 3,000 metres and also reached the final in the 800 metres, in which she placed sixth.

Amaya Davis claimed the island’s other gold medal in the 13-14 girls triple jump with a victorious leap of 10.65 metres.

Earning silver medals were Ronan and Elliott Davidge, Novi Butler and Suri Russell. Ronan Davidge won silver in the 13-14 boys 1,500 and 3,000 metres, Butler in the 9-10 girls long jump, Russell in the 17-18 boys 800 metres and Elliott Davidge in the 9-10 boys 1,500 metres.

Kelise Wade and Kaden Davis also stood proudly on the podium after securing bronze in the 15-16 girls 800 metres and 8 and under boys 100 metres respectively.

Bermuda Pacers coach Cal Simons hailed the club’s successful debut at the event.

“The competition was of a very high quality and the team coaches and parents on hand were very happy with the athletes performances,” he told The Royal Gazette.

“In addition to winning the ten medals, the team also had a number of athletes that produced personal-best performances. The club were also presented with the Outstanding International Team Award for 2026.

Bermuda Pacers were represented by a team of 19 athletes aged from 8 to 18, seven of whom were making their debut for the club on the international scene and competed in 48 individual events.

The event featured 2,600 athletes from 80 teams from across the US East Coast and the Caribbean and was hosted by Glenarden Track Club.
