Bermudian sprinter Miles Outerbridge clocked 10.52 seconds in the men’s 100 metres at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon, on Wednesday, with his time not enough to advance to the semi-finals.

Running out of lane nine in heat six at Hayward Field, Outerbridge finished behind American Tate Taylo,r, who won the heat in the fastest qualifying time of 10.05sec, with Outerbridge 0.47 seconds back.

To advance to the semi-finals an athlete needed to finish in the first three of each heat or be one of the fastest three losers across all heats. Outerbridge placed 40th overall from a field of 70 starters.

The 18-year-old was competing on the same track that hosted the 2022 World Athletics Championships, with his experience adding to Bermuda’s presence at global junior meets.

On Tuesday, Outerbridge indicated that he was going to make a decision on running the 200 depending on how far he progresses in the 100. As he exited the shorter distance in the preliminary stage, chances are high he will be entering the 200 heats on Friday.
