Young athletes in London for training camp
Seven of Bermuda’s most promising middle- and long-distance runners are in London this week for a five-day residential training camp aimed at building the next generation of track stars.
Sanchez Smith, Ronan Davidge, Spencer Haldeman, Gianluca Bortoli, Elena Bortoli, Riana Robinson and Sukanya Jobson were selected by the Bermuda National Athletics Association for the camp, which runs from Monday to Friday at Tonbridge School.
The group, aged 12 to 17, will get intensive coaching alongside classroom sessions designed to develop them as complete athletes. Last year, the BNAA sent nine rising stars for the five-day opportunity at the same venue.
“Our young athletes are off to London for an incredible five-day residential middle- and long-distance camp,” the BNAA said.
“This camp is about so much more than running. Over the next five days, our athletes will develop the knowledge, skills and mindset needed to grow both on and off the track.
“The curriculum covers strength and conditioning, mental health and wellbeing, nutrition and fuelling, relative energy deficiency in sport, training and athlete development, goal setting and performance.
“This is an opportunity for our athletes to learn, ask questions, challenge themselves, build confidence and gain valuable knowledge that will support them throughout their athletic journey,” the BNAA added.
