Victim of fatal road crash named as Miguel Butterfield

Police have named a 40-year-old man who died after a five-vehicle collision on Sunday.

Miguel Butterfield was seriously injured in a crash involving his motorcycle, three other motorcycles and a car on South Road, Southampton near Henry VIII Restaurant.

Despite life-saving efforts, he was later pronounced dead at the hospital. One of the oncoming motorcyclists sustained a broken arm and need surgery.

A firearm was later located at the scene of the crash, though police have said this matter would be investigated separately.

Mr Butterfield was the first road fatality of 2023. The second, involving 38-year-old Jason Simmons in a single-vehicle crash, occurred just two days later.

Police said that a family liaison was offering support to loved ones as police further investigated the incident.
