Airport in warning to kite flyers
The community was reminded of kite restrictions near the airport with the approach of Good Friday next week.
Kites, which pose a potential hazard for aircraft, should not be flown more than 100ft, or 30 metres, above the ground in the environs of LF Wade International Airport.
Skyport, the operator of the airport, highlighted the Ferry Reach area, Kindley Field Road and the Clearwater area of St David's, where kites could encroach on incoming or outbound aircraft.
Jason Inniss, the director of airport operations at Skyport, said: “Our objective is to ensure safe aircraft operations and avoid instances where kites could be ingested into aircraft engines while landing or taking off from the airport.”
The parameters are set out under the Air Navigation (Overseas Territories) Order 2013.
