Lane to be closed for trenching for nearly five months

Morning commuters from the West End will experience a lane closure on Middle Road, Southampton from next week until September 1.

Commuters from the West End will be affected by a lane closure on Middle Road, Southampton for nearly five months.

The closure, for Belco trench work, will be in place from April 10 to September 1, affecting traffic from Lighthouse Road to the Evans Bay Belco substation.

A Ministry of Public Works spokesman said: “The single-lane closure will be on the eastbound lane only and working hours will be from 7.30am to 6.30pm daily.

“Motorists are advised to use alternative routes via Lighthouse Road and South Road.

“The Ministry of Public Works wishes to encourage the full co-operation of the public and apologises for any inconvenience that may result.

“Should there be any questions regarding the Belco trench works, contact Jonathan Pedro, project manager for Belco on 295-5111, extension 1441.

“Any queries on detours, contact Tina Beer-Searle, principal highways engineer for the Ministry of Public Works, on 501-3044.”

Road users and local residents will also be affected by the St David’s County Cricket Club bicycle and go-kart races on Friday, April 7.

The Good Friday event will see traffic restrictions in place between 4pm to 4.45pm.

The spokesman said: “All motorists are expected to use caution and avoid collision with race participants.

“The race route will be under police and race official control. Motorists are asked to follow race official instructions to assist with traffic control for this event.

Mount Road, St Luke's Lane, Texas Road, and Great Bay Road will be closed to motorists.

The spokesman said: “The motorists must also allow cyclists and go-kart participants to use these roads and give way when directed by police and race officials.

“There will be parking restriction for roadways mentioned above for these races. Additionally, motorists must not block the race route or impede the participants in these races.

“While these races take place the residents will have limited access to their property. The residents must rely on race officials to grant access to their property.

“Use caution to avoid any collision with any race participant when entering the close roadways for this bicycle race.”
