Truck driver arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired
A truck driver who was taken to the hospital yesterday when police saw that he was breathing heavily and was incoherent has been arrested.
A spokesman for the Bermuda Police Service said that shortly after 9am, officers responded to reports of a truck being driven erratically in Paget.
The spokesman added: “The vehicle was reportedly swerving from one side of the roadway to the next.
“Officers responded and stopped the vehicle near the Rubis Service Station on South Road, Warwick.”
He said that police noticed that the driver was breathing heavily, incoherent and required medical assistance.
“As officers attempted to speak with him, his truck rolled forward and collided with a marked police car parked near by; there were no injuries reported,” added the spokesman.
The driver was taken to the King Edward Memorial VII Hospital after being helped by medical personnel at the scene.
He has since been arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
