Air travellers can expect flight disruption over the Fourth of July holiday in the United States and into the summer season.

Skyport, the operator of LF Wade International Airport, said it expected a continuation of delayed and cancelled flights owing to a number of factors, including crew availability, maintenance issues and adverse weather conditions.

A spokeswoman said: “In recent months, our airport has been experiencing almost daily flight delays attributed to various factors such as flight crew availability, maintenance issues and adverse weather conditions.

“While we are not aware of any specific changes directly related to the July 4 holiday at this time, it is essential to note that this period is not only our busiest travel season but a significant holiday weekend for the US market.

“Given the high volume of travellers expected during this time and considering the trends observed earlier this year, it is fair to say there may be some disruption to flights for the holiday continuing through the summer season.“

Skyport advised travellers to plan ahead, stay updated about their flight schedule and have contingency plans in place [see panel].

Plan ahead: Allocate extra time when scheduling travel during the summer period and the July 4 holiday. This will help account for potential delays and minimise stress.

Stay updated: Stay informed about any changes to flight schedules. Regularly check e-mails, messages and the airline's website or mobile app for real-time updates on flight status.

Have contingency plans: Have contingency plans in place such as alternative flight options on connecting flights or transportation methods in case of flight cancellations or rescheduling.
