Two athletic events will affect traffic on the island this month, the Government said.

The Ministry of Public Works advised that the Ludwig Cann 10K Road Race will start at 8am on Sunday at the western end of Astwood Park, Warwick.

It will continue west to St Anne’s Church before runners turn and go back to the starting line.

Road marshals and signs will direct traffic during the race, which is expected to finish at about 10am, but the road will remain open.

The RenaissanceRe MAAC five-mile and ten-mile races on April 14 will start at 7.30am at the South Gate of the Botanical Gardens on South Road, from where participants will head east.

For the ten-mile race, runners will turn around just after the junction of Paynters Road and South Road.

For the five-mile running and walking race, participants will turn at the west car park entrance of Spittal Pond.

They will then return to the finish line at the Lagoon Property opposite the Botanical Gardens South Gate.

The road will remain open and police will direct traffic during the races, which are expected to finish by 11am. Motorists were urged to follow instructions.

“In addition, police are hereby authorised to ‘close-off’ streets or parts of streets and authorise parking as the Commissioner of Police decides,” the ministry said.

The ministry encouraged the public’s co-operation during the two events and apologised for any inconvenience.

Questions about the Ludwig Cann 10k Road Race on April 7 can be directed at the race representative, Amin Smith, on 520-9747. For the RenaissanceRe five-mile and ten-mile races, questions can be directed at race representatives Ciaran Keaveny on 517-3951 and Jenni Simpson on 538-2284
