Efforts continue to improve the state of roads across the island, the public works ministry said, adding that there has been “visible progress” in several parishes over the past week.

During the weekend of April 11 to 12, crews carried out targeted pothole repairs, focusing on the most heavily affected areas of concern identified by residents.

The ministry said that the works reflected a “continued commitment to addressing everyday issues that directly impact drivers, commuters and families”.

Works completed last week included the installation of roadside fencing along Mangrove Bay Road and Cook’s Hill in Sandys. The ministry said that made areas safer for pedestrians and drivers.

In Devonshire, crews installed a flashing beacon base along Middle Road to improve visibility and awareness for road users.

Embankment repairs were completed along Trimingham Hill to protect pedestrian access and ensure public safety.

Major works were said to be under way to improve traffic flow and public transportation access including in Pembroke, Hamilton and Paget parishes, as well as in Flatts.

Major works under way

• Road paving along Spanish Point Road in Pembroke, a key commuter corridor

• Expansion of bus lay-bys at Blue Hole Hill in Hamilton Parish to support safer and more efficient public transport use

• A pilot pothole repair programme in Paget, with additional contractor support to assist with repairs

• Preparatory work for new traffic lights in Flatts to improve traffic management and safety

Jaché Adams, the Minister of Public Works and Environment, said: “Our teams are focused on fixing roads, improving safety and responding quickly when issues arise.

“While there is much work to be done, we are determined to have steady, consistent delivery across the island.”

The ministry said that in the coming weeks, it will roll out additional projects, including preparations for the Swing Bridge detour route in St George’s, drainage improvements on St John’s Road in Pembroke and new fencing at Barker’s Hill roundabout in Devonshire.
