The Government has urged those interested in becoming ride-share operators to make sure they meet requirements before applications open this month.

The ride-share application period will open on April 30 and conclude on May 14, with up to 150 permits to be issued.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Tourism, Transport, Culture and Sport, noted that applicants will need to have a Public Service Vehicle Licence, which allows the holder to operate a public service vehicle.

Licences issued solely for heavy truck or community service vehicle operations do not qualify for ride-sharing and will not be considered.

The spokesman added: “Individuals who do not currently hold this licence are encouraged to submit an application as soon as possible via the Transport Control Department’s online portal.”

Those who submit a PSVL application will be contacted by TCD with guidance on additional requirements and next steps.

Ride-sharing services are scheduled to go live on June 10, with the Government stating that it will complement the existing taxi industry by enhancing service availability during periods of high demand, while maintaining a balanced and well regulated transport network.

Owen Darrell, the Minister of Tourism, Transport, Culture and Sport, said: “Ride-sharing forms an important part of our broader efforts to modernise Bermuda’s transport network and improve service availability, particularly during periods of high demand.

“We encourage those interested to ensure they meet the eligibility requirements and are prepared to apply within the designated time frame.”

Interested parties can apply for a PSVL at www.transportcontrol.gov.bm/applications, while more information about the ride-sharing programme is available online at www.gov.bm/ridesharing-frequently-asked-questions.
