Skyport urges taxi and rideshare drivers to offer later services

Airport operators this week reminded taxi drivers and rideshare operators of the role they can play in assisting with airport arrivals.

A spokeswoman for Skyport said there was often “insufficient ground transportation” to meet passenger demand at LF Wade International Airport in the afternoon and evening.

“We appreciate the ongoing partnership of our taxi and ridesharing community,” the spokeswoman added.

“Our aim is to highlight a period where operators will likely find additional business by being present at the airport and, in doing so, will help to ensure that the demands and expectations of our arriving passengers are adequately met.”

American Airlines, BermudAir, Delta and JetBlue are expected to arrive in Bermuda from Charlotte, Boston, Newark and New York JFK during the midafternoon and night-time periods.

As many as 600 passengers can arrive between 2pm and 2.30pm on peak days, while other high-volume flights can bring almost 200 passengers between 9pm and 10pm.

Skyport encouraged drivers to visit the airport during those times for “added value” while also helping fill a temporary void.
