Police have cordoned off a section road near the Fairmont Southampton after a three-way collision involving three heavy trucks.

While details were limited, a Bermuda Police Service spokeswoman said it seemed that two trucks were travelling west along South Road near Harbour View Drive when one attempted to overtake the other.

She added that as the manoeuvre was carried out, the vehicles collided before the overtaking truck hit an oncoming truck and overturned, completely blocking the roadway.

The driver of the overturned truck was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for what were believed to be minor injuries. The other truck drivers were uninjured.

Police and members of the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service were working to clear the scene this morning.

Traffic was being diverted at Horseshoe Road and Lighthouse Road. Motorists were advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes where possible.
