Agencies from Canada and the US launched a search for black boxes from a medical evacuation flight that went missing on Saturday morning while travelling from Bermuda to Boston.

A small team from the Transport Safety Board of Canada and US National Transport Safety Board are going to Nantucket, Massachusetts, to help co-ordinate the search for the plane’s recording devices, The Hamilton Spectator, based in Ontario, reported.

The Gulfstream G100 jet, registration C‑GRJP, was carrying two Bermudians and four Canadians when it crashed.

The TSB is leading the investigation into the incident.

“The aircraft, belonging to Latitude Air Ambulance, departed Bermuda with six occupants and was approaching the Boston area when the crew reported electrical difficulties,” a TSB media statement said.

“The aircraft subsequently descended rapidly and contact with air traffic control was lost south of Nantucket.”

Categorised as a class 3 investigation, the TSB will analyse a small number of safety issues, which may result in recommendations being made.

Typical investigations in this class are completed within 450 days, according to the agency.

It is understood the TSB will help in recovery efforts once the plane is found.
