A triathlon will affect traffic in the East End this weekend, the Ministry of Public Works and Environment advised.

A spokeswoman said the Americas Triathlon Carifta Championships is set to start and finish at Cooper’s Island Road tomorrow and Sunday.

Participants head to Southside Road, past the roundabout at Lower Gates Road and make a U-turn at Westcott Road roundabout.

Competitors will then head east on Southside Road to its junction with Tommy Fox Road and proceed to Cooper’s Island Road to either complete one lap or continue to the finish line.

Cooper’s Island Road, between Clearwater Beach and Pepper Hall Road, and Southside Road near Tommy Fox Road, Lower Gates Road and Westcott Road, will be closed between 7am and 3.30pm tomorrow and 7am and 11am on Sunday, but access to Longfield Road and Westcott Road will remain open to motorists.

There will be no parking restrictions along during the bicycle race tomorrow, but the Bermuda Land Management Corporation ordered that motorists assisting participants not travel faster than 75km/h and that people not block or impede bicyclists during the event.

Police are authorised to close streets or portions of streets as decided by the Commissioner during the events, questions can be directed to race representative Alex Shepherd at 707-8474.
