Bermuda regains Chicago connection next year
Bookings can be made now for a direct flight between Bermuda and Chicago to be launched next year.
United Airlines are introducing a Boeing 737 connection to Chicago O’Hare International Airport, with weekly Saturday services.
Owen Darrell, Minister of Tourism, Transport, Culture and Sport, said: “The introduction of nonstop service from Chicago represents an important step in expanding Bermuda's reach within the US market,
“Each new gateway gives us an opportunity to introduce our island to more travellers, strengthen our tourism industry and support the businesses and people who depend on it.”
Chicago O’Hare provides connections to cities across the Midwest and beyond, while making Bermuda accessible through United’s wider network.
Tom Kozlowski, senior manager of Latin America, Caribbean and Hawaii planning at United, said: “This new service builds on our existing connection through Newark/New York and makes it easier for travellers from Chicago and beyond to plan a visit to Bermuda.”
Jan Hutton, chief executive of the Bermuda Tourism Authority said: “A new air route creates an opportunity, but what we do with that opportunity matters just as much.
“Chicago gives us access to a significant travel market and, through United’s wider network, the potential to reach travellers well beyond the city itself.
“Our focus now is on building awareness, working with our industry partners and giving travellers compelling reasons to choose Bermuda.”
William Griffith, chairman of the air service development committee, said: “Strong, long-term airline partnerships are essential to Bermuda’s continued growth.
“United’s new Chicago service strengthens our connection to the Midwest while opening new opportunities to introduce travellers from across the western United States to our extraordinary island.”
