Fewer than 150 homes were still without power this afternoon as Belco crews continued Hurricane Paulette restoration efforts.All main lines had been restored and electricity was back on for more than 24,000 customers by late afternoon yesterday.A total of 137 outages remained across the island at 3pm today.Belco president Dennis Pimentel said: “I would like to commend our road crews and those working behind the scenes for their tireless effort to get our customers switched back on as quickly and safely as possible.“It’s a team effort and they have done a fantastic job to help Bermuda recover so quickly after the damage caused by Hurricane Paulette.“Thanks also to the Bermuda Regiment Band other emergency services who helped clear roads, direct traffic and enable access for our crews to repair damaged infrastructure.”Mr Pimental added: “Let me also thank the public for their patience and understanding as well as the appreciation our crews are receiving as they continue to restore power across the island.”He said Belco was preparing itself for the potential approach of Hurricane Teddy at the end of this week.Crews will stand down at midnight tonight and begin work tomorrow at 8am.Focus is now on smaller areas and single customer calls.Customers still without power should call the Belco outage line on 955.The power company’s crisis management team will continue to meet and coordinate restoration efforts until all power is restored.Belco opened today at 8.30am.
