Motor yacht runs aground

A boat was up on the rocks of Ports Island following the storm (Photograph supplied)

A 73ft motor yacht landed up on the rocks at Ports Island as a result of Hurricane Fiona.

The charter boat, named Cortina, is still at the Warwick location facing in a southeasterly direction.

The duty officer at the Maritime Operations Centre said the extent of the boat’s damage was still unclear.

He said it had been a mostly uneventful hurricane on the water.

A small sailboat broke free from its moorings at Coney Island, Hamilton Parish, and ended up about 200 metres away in the direction of Stone Crusher Corner.

A dock outside the new airport terminal also came free.
