Hurricane Nigel forecast to pass well away from island

The 6pm Bermuda Weather Service update shows Hurricane Nigel curving well away from the island.

Bermuda is on course to dodge another major storm as Hurricane Nigel is forecast to pass well away from the island.

In the past few weeks, Hurricane Franklin and Hurricane Lee as well as Storm Idalia have all come close.

Forecasters said that Hurricane Nigel would be a major storm. It is expected to be a category 3 — when it passes the island later this week.

Yesterday’s 6pm Bermuda Weather Service forecast said Nigel’s closest point of approach within 72 hours is about 550 miles to the east-northeast at 3am on Wednesday as it turns away from the island.
