It has been a tremendous school year for West Pembroke in so many areas.West Pembroke offers an extensive extra curricular programme for their students. It includes a sailing club, swimming club, gardening club, photography club, art club, exercise and fitness club and Spanish. The students make use of the Saltus swimming pool at 7.30am and sailing takes place on a Wednesday afternoon during the school day. These activities are offered in addition to the netball and football clubs.Congratulations to Gabrielle Hadassah Reid, 11. Gabrielle won the poetry category of the inaugural Bermuda Blue Halo Children's Writing Contest. The name of the contest was “What Does Our Ocean Mean to You?”Here is her poem:“Whispers of the Sea”I hear the ocean whispering to me;And this is what it said to me:I'm going to say something you might expect; And if you don't fine but have some respect! Why? Why? Why? Do you hurt me?You trash me and ignore me?As if you don't careYou dump plastic and bottles in me — do you think that's fair?Don't cover your ears and say you don't hear me cry,Because for all you care — I could dry up and die.I have stopped waiting for you to change, and I'm tired and through,Now my last request to you, tell the people how I feel — but can I trust you?As the ocean's voice died away,I really wanted it to stay. For the statement the ocean was trying to make was this,Have we gone too far with our trash and are we too late?Congratulations to Destani and DeAndre Warner who were crowned female and male champion for their age groups at the BSSF Inter School Sports.West Pembroke entered artwork in a Masterworks Art competition entitled 'Art in sailing'.
