Warwick Academy and Saltus impress in sporting competitions

Warwick Academy dominated the BSSF middle school swim meet with victories in all four divisions. They tied with BHS with 71 points in the Under 13 girls’ division. Warwick won the remaining three divisions outright with 78 points in the over 13 girls’ division, 89 in the under 13 boys’ division and 87 in the over 13 boys’ category.Warwick went on the win the overall girls’ title with 149 points. They were followed by BHS with 142 while Saltus rounded out the top three with 123 points. Warwick’s 176 points easily won the boys’ overall title. Saltus followed with 115 points while Somersfield Academy finished with 75.Warwick’s top performers were Emma Harvey, who won the under 13 girls’ butterfly and individual medley races, Brett Smith, who won the under 13 boys’ backstroke and freestyle, Alex Pilgrim, who won the under 13 boys’ individual medley and butterfly, and Jesse Washington, who won the over 13 boys’ butterfly and individual medley. Megan Lau, from BHS, was also a double winner winning the over 13 girls’ individual medley and breaststroke. Other notable performances came from Somersfield Academy’s Nicholas Brando and Evan Farrow in the over 13 boys’ division. Brando won the backstroke and finished second to Washington in the butterfly, while Farrow won the freestyle and finished second to Washington in the individual medleyAway from the swimming pool, on the football pitch, Saltus won the senior school girls’ six-a-side tournament after finishing the day undefeated. Saltus needed a victory in the final match of the round robin tournament to secure the title. They fell behind in the first half to Berkeley Gold through Esaiah Lister. The points table was so close that defeat would have pushed Saltus to third place. Eve Frazzoni scored twice in the second half to give Saltus the victory. Saltus also defeated CedarBridge Academy 1-0 with a goal from Zakiyah Durham. Their other match, against Berkeley Green, ended in a scoreless draw. CedarBridge finished in second place. They also defeated Berkeley Gold 1-0 with Deshae Darrell scoring the game’s only goal. This secured the Berkeley sweep after Jahzyiah Samuels gave them a 1-0 victory over Berkeley Green.
