Saltus students given kick-start to ponder career options

Earlier in the year, Director of Guidance and Development at Saltus, Mrs Nicole Chichon-De Silva, had surveyed Secondary students regarding which careers they would most like to learn about. Based on this feedback, she organised a Careers Fair at Saltus which had representatives from KPMG, XL Group, Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre, Decisions Group (which includes Decisions Ltd, Bermuda Technologies Ltd, and Hospitality Systems Ltd), Chartered Accountants of Bermuda, Bermuda Chapter-CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters) Society, as well as law and insurance. Students were able to find out about careers as varied as nursing, Radiologic Technologists, Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, IT, marketing, accountancy, law and insurance, as well as marine-related professions including that of a Master (Captain) or Chief Engineer aboard ship. Although the fair was designed for Saltus Year 9 students who will be selecting their GCSE options, it was open to all Secondary students. Students reported that they learned a lot and one commented, “It was good to know what courses you need for the different careers.” An added bonus was a student draw for gift certificates from Yo Cherry, Speciality Cinema and Treats plus iTunes cards, and more.
