Roxy Music singer Bryan Ferry has donated a live recording to be featured on the international edition of the Lennon Bermuda tribute CD.The track is a cover version of John Lennon’s ‘Jealous Guy’, a song that became a global hit for Roxy Music when it was released just months after Mr Lennon was murdered in New York in December 1980.The live recording was made at a concert in Lyon, France, last year and features Bermudian drummer Andy Newmark, who also played on Mr Lennon’s final album ‘Double Fantasy’.The news that Mr Ferry is to appear on a future version of the CD comes ahead of the September 21 John Lennon tribute concert in the Botanical Gardens.Organisers believe the concert has a chance of raising more for charity than the $210,000 achieved by the Bermuda Live Aid event in 1985.Tony Brannon, who was also behind the Island’s Live Aid show, said it was possible the event could raise more if it sells out.Performers lined up to appear include international recording artists Maxi Priest and Heather Nova, as well as Biggie Irie, Judy Tzuke and veteran Roy Young who played with the Beatles during their Hamburg years.Concert tickets are still available, ranging from $50 to watch the show from the hillside at the Botanical Gardens showground, to corporate tables with dinner included.“There are levels of ticket pricing for everyone, from $50 to premium tables at the front,” said Mr Brannon.“Sales are going well and the corporate section is more than half sold out. I’d like to appeal to companies and corporations to come along and support the event.”The concert will feature the songs of Mr Lennon and the Beatles played by international and local artists, many of which will also appear on a double CD which is part of a ‘Lennon Bermuda’ box set to be sold at the event. The box set will also include a book about Mr Lennon’s two-month vacation on the Island in the summer of 1980 when he wrote what became his final songs.Mr Brannon says the Bermuda box set will become a collectors item. Bryan Ferry’s track arrived too late to appear on the double CD, but is scheduled to feature on a later international release. A video of Mr Ferry and Mr Newmark playing the song is due to be shown during Lennon tribute concert.Concertgoers will have an opportunity to get autographs from the performers at the concert at a concession stand for $2. The money raised from the autographs will go to the Matilda Smith Williams Seniors Residence.Tickets for the concert are available at www.ptix.bm.l Useful website: www.doublefantasybermuda.com
