You can be the manager

Among the myriad of great services that our friends at the Bermuda Sun provided to the community over the years was the Fantasy Football League and we at The Royal Gazette have committed to picking up the baton — starting on Saturday!

Entry is free but the significant difference from previous editions is that we are opening RG Fantasy League to fans of all ages, with prizes totalling $3,000 in value.

Supporters’ appetites would have been whetted by a fantastic World Cup in Brazil, followed yesterday by Arsenal’s crushing 3-0 win over Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley, where some of the new players to the English game were on show.

We will publish a weekly table and the lucky person who finishes top of the heap come May 24, 2015 will walk away with a cheque for $1,000. Prize money will be awarded down to fourth place, with the runner-up getting $500, third place $300 and fourth place $200. In addition, there will be monthly gift certificates valued at $100 that should incentivise late starters, and even poor starters, to give it a go, even if the leaders have sprinted away into the distance.

While Royal Gazette employees will be encouraged to enter RG Fantasy League, they will be ineligible for the awards.

So on to the footy.

Think you have what it takes to match wits with José Mourinho? Are you as shrewd in the transfer market as Arsène Wenger? Well, here is your chance to prove it.

On Saturday lunchtime, Manchester United and new manager Louis van Gaal get the ball rolling at home to Swansea City, with Manchester City away to Newcastle United in the Sunday nightcap and Chelsea concluding matchday one on Monday night when they travel North to face promoted Burnley.

Again, the league is free to enter and it is simple enough to do.

To register, go to the Premier League website, at premierleague.com, and enter the following code, 652889-348609.

Enjoy!
