Bronx Obama, winner of a Best of Fest Award at AFI Docs in Washington DC, tells of a heartfelt story about a Barack Obama impersonator.

A heartfelt documentary about a Barack Obama impersonator and a hilarious film about a culinary road trip through Italy will hit the local screen this weekend.

Bronx Obama tells of how unemployed single parent, Louis Ortiz, shaved off his goatee and found he looked remarkably similar to the US President.

Mr Ortiz started making public appearances as Bronx Obama, eventually making low-budget ads and music videos, a Japanese film, and even an appearance on HBO.

Described as a “warm, funny and heartfelt” film, it explores issues of personal identity, fatherhood, family and racism in America.

It will screen in the Tradewinds Auditorium of the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute on Sunday at 3pm.

Meanwhile, comedians Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon feature in The Trip to Italy, which screens on the same day at 5.15pm.

In a sequel to their hit film The Trip, the pair retrace the steps of old poets through Italy, taking part in some hilarious banter along the way.

The film also shows the men enjoying delicious meals in gorgeous settings from Liguria to Capri — as the camera captures the idyllic Italian landscape around them.

Duncan Hall, the programme director of the Weekend Film Series, said there was lots of enjoyment to be had watching this film.

“The Trip to Italy effortlessly melds the brilliant comic interplay between Coogan and Brydon into quieter moments of self-reflection, letting audiences into their insightful ruminations on the nuances of friendship and the juggling of family and career,” Mr Hall said.

Tickets to both films are on sale now at BUEI or by calling 294-0204.

The Weekend Film Series, sponsored by Gosling’s, is a joint production of Bermuda Documentary Film Festival and the BUEI.
