Cold water poured on document talk

The One Bermuda Alliance is not sharing among its ranks a transcript of Progressive Labour Party leader Marc Bean’s conversation with OBA MP Nandi Outerbridge, a party source told The Royal Gazette.

The purported document hearkens back to a July 2013 exchange with Ms Outerbridge, which was recorded on a cell phone and became a topic of rancour in the House of Assembly.

Mr Bean had accused former Premier Craig Cannonier of “gutter politics” over the incident, said to have occurred in the Opposition leader’s lounge. Although the alleged recording was a hot topic early this year, it had faded from mention until Thursday night’s delegates conference when Mr Bean told the private gathering of a document referencing the incident circulating among the OBA.

Mr Bean subsequently declined to discuss the matter with reporters, citing the privacy of matters discussed in conference, but would-be leadership challenger Walton Brown acknowledged having heard of such a document.

A source within the OBA said the issue had long faded off the political radar, however.

“Nobody has spoken of it — there is no document and nobody is circulating a document,” he said. “This is a figment of whatever is turning around still in Mr Bean’s mind.”
