Academy boss Todd quits role

Resigned: BFA national academy director Todd

Richard Todd has resigned as the director of the Bermuda Football Association’s national academy.

Todd stepped down yesterday, with the BFA’s decision not to renew his contract believed to be just one of the reasons behind the move.

The BFA have refused to comment.

Todd took up the role in August 2012, signing a three-year part-time contract, and had been looking for the BFA to take him on full-time.

The Saltus Grammar School teacher said in an interview with The Royal Gazette in September last year that to continue juggling the jobs would be to do a disservice to the role.

“For the job to be done properly, it requires a full-time individual, otherwise we will continue to sell ourselves short,” Todd said.

Todd’s departure has already caused ripples of discontent within the BFA, and Dennis Andrew, a national academy coach, is understood to have sent a letter to Larry Mussenden, the BFA president, outlining his concerns,

The BFA may have found themselves in an impossible position, however, caught between Todd’s desire for a full-time role and the job security that went with it, and the $350,000 they received from Government in this year’s Budget.
