Trott and Burnie win at seniors

Men's champion: Hav Trott

Hav Trott did just enough to claim the Bermuda Senior Championships yesterday.

Trott finished a shot ahead of defending champion Arthur Jones after posting a final round two-over-par 73 to finish 10 over for the three rounds.

Jones, meanwhile, ended agonisingly short despite a better last day, his 72 ultimately meant he could not overcome the overnight two-shot deficit he faced.

After the front nine Jones managed to regain the two shots and move level with Trott, before taking a one-shot lead on the 10th with a birdie.

However, a bogey on 15 put the match back even.

On the 18th hole, both players were on the green in regulation but Jones just missed his birdie putt, while Trott, in dramatic fashion, managed to stop the ball on the lip for a couple of seconds before it dropped in for birdie to give him the title.

Tony Ravenda was third, a further eight shots back on 19 over after his final round of 74.

In the women’s championship Katrin Burnie cruised to victory, finishing 26 over for the tournament from rounds of 82, 79, 81.

Her final round of 9 over left her some 20 shots ahead of Ann Symonds, with Carol Jones third at 60 over.
