BTC launches apprenticeship programme

Telecoms firm BTC has launched a new apprenticeship programme.

And the three-year training scheme aims to equip young Bermudians with the educational and technical requirements needed for a career in the industry.

Robin Seale, CEO of Digicel and BTC, said: “The BTC apprenticeship programme is designed to provide a special opportunity for Bermuda’s youth.

“The programme will offer the platform to develop the successful applicant’s skills in a practical environment.

“We are looking forward to developing our apprentices and teaching them an expertise that will last a lifetime.”

The training programme, open to 18- to 25-year-olds, will qualify successful apprentices and technicians, with the possibility of a job with BTC at the end.

The scheme was set up to develop young people in Bermuda and offer the chance to learn a new trade at the Island’s longest-running telecoms firm.

Michael Fahy, the Minister for Home Affairs, said: “I would like to congratulate the Department of Workforce Development for yet another successful partnership with the private sector in ensuring the creation of Bermudian jobs.

“I also wish to thank BTC for being a good corporate citizen and ensuring the training of these Bermudians.”

To be eligible for the programme, applicants will have to have an interest in telecoms and prepared to learn. No professional qualifications or experience are necessary.

More information and an application form, which must be returned by Monday, October 19, is available at www.btc.bm.
